This book is a commentary on the Seokgayeoraeseongdogi (Record of Shakyamuni's Attainment of the Way), composed in the early Tang dynasty by the poet Wang Bo*, with annotations added by Doseong of Wollyunsan Mountain, by the Qiantang River in the southern outskirts of Hangzhou. It was printed using the medium and small sizes of the Eulhaeja movable metal type used in the early Joseon period, and its contents recount the life of Shakyamuni. Because no colophon survives, the precise origin and circumstances of its production cannot be confirmed, but judging from the type and the binding (jecheak, the process of gathering printed sheets in order and binding them into a book), it appears to have been published in the sixteenth century, before the Imjin War of 1592. The cover, of sturdy hanji paper (jangji), bears the title "如來成道記" written in ink, and the book is in relatively good condition. Each page is bordered on all four sides by a single frame line (sajudanbyeon) and consists of nine lines; both the medium and small type have seventeen characters per line, though the small type is set in two columns per line.
