Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krA sindobi is a stele recording the lifetime achievements of a king or high official, erected to the south-east of his tomb; this stele commemorates the life of Kim U-ong (1540–1603), a civil official of the mid-Joseon period. Kim U-ong became a disciple of Jo Sik and inherited his tradition of Neo-Confucian learning. In 1567, the twenty-second year of King Myeongjong, he passed the civil service examination and went on to serve as Jikjehak, Daesagan, and Vice Minister of both the Ministry of War and the Ministry of Punishments. He compiled the Sokgangmok and wrote many poems, and after his death was posthumously raised to Minister of Personnel. The stele takes the form of a stone body set upon a tortoise-shaped base and capped with a roof-stone. The inscription was composed by Garam Yi Hyeon-il, and the calligraphy was written by Misu Heo Mok.
