Geumhojae Hall is a building where memorial rites are held for Yi Jang-gon (pen name Geumheon), who served as Minister of War during the reign of King Jungjong of Joseon (r. 1506–1544). Yi Jang-gon was a civil official of the early Joseon period; after his death he was honoured with memorial rites at Yeongam Seowon in Changnyeong, but that academy too disappeared under the Heungseon Daewongun's decree abolishing Confucian academies. Geumhojae itself appears to have originally been an annex building of Yongheungsa Temple, which was relocated to its present site in 1966 and adapted as the memorial hall for Yi Jang-gon. The building measures four bays across the front and two bays in depth, with a hip-and-gable roof that, seen from the side, forms the shape of the Chinese character for "eight" (八); it is equipped with a wooden-floored hall and underfloor-heated rooms. The doors to the rooms combine both functional and decorative qualities, giving the building a notably practical character.
