This standing stone Buddha is enshrined within the grounds of Gogyeonsa Temple, which was founded in the seventh year of King Munmu of Silla (177), and is carved from granite. The head has a low, closely cropped hairstyle with a clearly defined usnisha (the raised protuberance atop the head symbolising the Buddha's wisdom), and the head halo is decorated with a single-petalled lotus design and a beaded-string pattern, reflecting the artistic taste of the period. The statue stands 220 cm tall, with the mandorla 120 cm wide and the shoulders 75 cm wide; overall it presents a dignified bearing with a distinctly native, folk-like character.
