Jongseonjeong Pavilion

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krJongseonjeong Pavilion was built by the villagers in gratitude for the good deeds of Geum Eung-seok (1508–1583). At the time, prolonged drought and repeated poor harvests had left the villagers starving, in such dire straits that they did not even have seed to sow in their fields. Geum Eung-seok distributed food to the starving and gave farmers seed free of charge, among many other acts of kindness. On learning of this, Toegye Yi Hwang is said to have named the pavilion "Jongseonjeong" and to have personally written the wooden signboard hung there. The building has a straight, single-row plan of four bays across the front and two bays deep, with the entrance at the rear, and is fitted with an ondol-heated room and a daecheong wooden-floored hall.
