Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krChubonsa Temple and Myeonggoksa Temple are shrines for the ancestral rites of the Bunseong Bae clan, dedicated to its founding ancestor Bae Ji-ta, together with Bae Bu, Bae Hyeon-gyeong, Bae U, Bae Seung-go and Bae Won-ryong, and Bae Maeng-hu, Bae Myeong-won, Bae Hyeong-won and Bae Il-jang. Chubonsa was first built at Sangjeong in 1537, the thirty-second year of King Jungjong of Joseon, but later collapsed and was moved to its present site in 1948. It has a three-bay front and a two-bay side, with a gable roof shaped, in side profile, like the character 人 (person), and separate columns are set up at the front to create an open space. Myeonggok Seowon was built at Myeonggok in 1675, the first year of King Sukjong of Joseon, but was demolished under the order to abolish seowon academies issued during the reign of Emperor Gojong. It was rebuilt at Sangjeong as Myeonggoksa in 1938 and moved to its present location in 1948. It has a three-bay front and a one-bay side, likewise with a gable roof in the shape of the character 人; unlike Chubonsa, it has no open space at the front.
