These are Joseon-period woodblocks engraved with documents related to the Changnyeong Seong clan. They comprise 284 blocks of the Ugye seonsaeng munjip (Collected Works of Ugye), 33 blocks of the Dumundong seonsaeng silgi (Veritable Record of Dumundong), 22 blocks of the Changnyeong Seong-ssi Manryeokbo (a clan genealogy compiled in the Wanli era), 70 blocks of the Changnyeong Seong-ssi Munhaeng yeoljeon (Biographies of Distinguished Members of the Clan), 46 blocks of the Seong Sijung hyohaengnok (Record of the Filial Conduct of Minister Seong), and 189 blocks of the Changnyeong Seong-ssi Gichukbo (a further clan genealogy). These woodblocks were kept at Mulgyeseowon, a Confucian academy dedicated to Ugye Seong Hon (1525-1598), until they were moved to Maeksanjae when the Regent Daewongun abolished the seowon academies. Mulgyeseowon was subsequently restored between 1989 and 1994, and a woodblock storehouse was rebuilt within the academy grounds on 9 November 1996, to which the woodblocks were returned and are now kept. 1. Woodblocks of the Ugye seonsaeng munjip: engraved with the collected writings of Seong Hon, a great master of Joseon Neo-Confucianism. They consist of six volumes of the original collection published in 1621 by disciples such as Kim Jip and Seong Munjun, and six volumes of a supplementary collection published in 1682 at the Gongju provincial government office. The supplementary collection was compiled to make up for parts of the original—produced during the reign of King Gwanghaegun—that the ruling powers of the time had found objectionable and had therefore omitted. 2. Woodblocks of the Dumundong seonsaeng silgi: record the deeds of Seong Sajae, posthumously titled Jeongjeolgong, who opposed the enthronement of Yi Seong-gye, founder of Joseon, as King Taejo, and withdrew into Mansusan Mountain never to re-emerge, together with matters relating to his shrine. 3. Woodblocks of the Changnyeong Seong-ssi Munhaeng yeoljeon: record the deeds of 147 distinguished members of the Changnyeong Seong clan, noted for their learning, literary accomplishment, loyalty, filial piety and virtue. 4. Woodblocks of the Seong Sijung hyohaengnok: record how Seong Songguk, the founding ancestor of the Changnyeong Seong clan who held the office of sijung (chief minister), carried his father's remains from Gaeseong to Changnyeong, together with his filial conduct. 5. Woodblocks of the Changnyeong Seong-ssi Manryeokbo: a genealogical record of the clan. Since genealogies were generally revised every thirty years or so and few early examples survive, this one, dating back some 370 years, is important material for the study of social history. 6. Woodblocks of the Changnyeong Seong-ssi Gichukbo: a genealogy published following on from the Manryeok-era genealogy.
