This house was built in 1701, the 27th year of King Sukjong of Joseon, by the Neo-Confucian scholar Jeong Gyu-yang (1667-1732). It was originally called Taegowa, but was repaired by his disciples in 1730, the sixth year of King Yeongjo, and renamed Mogoheon. Jeong Gyu-yang travelled between this house and Okganjeong Pavilion, which he and his elder brother Jeong Man-yang had built together to cultivate disciples, and the two brothers took the pen names Hun and Ji as a mark of their brotherly affection. The building measures two bays across the front and two bays deep, with a hip-and-gable roof whose sides form the shape of the character for "eight" (八); it is a distinctive building with narrow eaves-bays on all four sides.
