Lotus Sutra
묘법연화경 · 妙法蓮華經

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krAccording to the colophon appended to the end of volume 7, written by Nam Jae — who held the title Sunchung Jwamyeong Gaeguk Gongsin (Meritorious Subject of Loyal Assistance in the Founding of the Dynasty), the rank of Jeongdaebu, and the post of Sumun Haksa — the sutra was published in 1399, the first year of King Jeong Jong, by the monk Haerin, with funds donated by Jeong Cheon-ik, who had held the rank of Jungjeongdaebu and the post of Sajaeryeong, and Yi Yang, formerly Junghundaebu and head of the Gungigam (Directorate of Weapons). It appears to be the same edition as the Lotus Sutra, volumes 1–3 and 4–7, held in the National Museum of Korea and designated Treasure No. 1081. Part of the first and second leaves of volume 1 have been lost and were supplemented, but the sutra is otherwise generally well preserved. The book's border is a sajussangbyeon (四周雙邊; two lines enclosing all four sides), the main text has no lines dividing the columns, and each page is laid out flat with 14 lines of 24 characters. This volume was among the belongings of the monk Ham Do-seong, who died in August 1994, and was identified in 2001 during the first survey of artefacts held by the order for the establishment of the Cheontae Museum.
