Yun Byeol-dong Tomb
윤별동묘 · 尹別洞廟

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is a shrine built to hold memorial rites for Byeoldong Yun Sang (1373–1455), a great scholar of the early Joseon period. Starting out as a local clerk (hyangni) in Yecheon, Byeoldong built up his learning under the teaching of master Joyong and rose to the position of daesaseong (director of the National Academy), earning great respect for having trained many talented men during his official career. Built in the second year of King Sejo (1456), this shrine shows an old style of construction: only the centre bay is fitted with a pair of yeolgaemun (hinged panel doors), while the bays on either side have only gwangchang, small openings that let light through. The building has a structure and style rarely seen in shrine architecture.
