Gyeongsudang Head House
경수당종택 · 慶壽堂宗宅

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis house was built by Gyeongsudang Park Se-sun (1539–1612), who served as a general during the Japanese invasions of Korea (1592–1598). It was originally built on a grand scale of ninety-nine kan (a traditional unit measuring the space between four pillars) in 1570, the third year of King Seonjo, but was burned down through the carelessness of his great-grandson Park Mun-yak. Distressed at having caused the fire through his own fault, Mun-yak wore mourning clothes and wailed for three days, then rebuilt the house to its present scale in 1713, the thirty-ninth year of King Sukjong. It consists of a main residential quarter (jeongchim) arranged in a square (ㅁ) shape, together with a wooden-floored hall (daecheong) three bays wide at the front.
