Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThese are woodblocks carved for the literary collection of Son Jo-seo, pen name Gyeokjae, a scholar of the early Joseon period. Son Jo-seo served as a scholar at the Hall of Worthies (Jiphyeonjeon), as a section chief in the Ministry of War, and as magistrate of Bongsan County. Indignant at King Sejo's usurpation of the throne from King Danjong, he abandoned all his official posts, returned to his hometown, and, holding to loyalty and integrity, shut himself away from the world, devoting himself solely to Neo-Confucian scholarship. Memorial rites for him are held at Cheongho Seowon, a Confucian academy, in Daegu.
