Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThese are woodblocks carved with the collected writings of Chucheon, Son Yeong-je, and Seongeundang, Son Seok-jwa, both civil officials in the reign of King Seonjo of Joseon. Son Yeong-je passed the civil service examination in 1561, the sixteenth year of King Myeongjong, and held posts including Jipyeong of the Office of the Inspector-General and Jeonjeok of Seonggyungwan, the National Confucian Academy. While serving as magistrate of Yean, he studied under Toegye, Yi Hwang, and in 1574, the seventh year of King Seonjo, he used his own wealth to found Dosanseowon Confucian Academy. Son Seok-jwa was a jinsa, a licentiate degree holder, in the reign of King Hyeonjong. From an early age he was well versed in the classics and histories and skilled in poetry, and was admired by the students of Seonggyungwan. In his later years he was often urged to take office, but never did so of his own accord. Today the woodblocks of the two men's collected works are kept and managed by the head house of the Gyo-dong branch of the Miryang Son clan.
