Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is a place built to honour and hold memorial rites for Jeong Tak (1526–1605), a civil official of mid-Joseon. Jeong Tak lived through the reigns of King Myeongjong and King Seonjo, distinguished himself during the Imjin War (the Japanese invasions of Korea), and is remembered for the famous episode in which he saved the life of General Yi Sun-sin while Yi was imprisoned. After his death he was enshrined at Dojeong Seowon in Yecheon, and was later moved to the present building, built by his descendants. The site consists of a ritual house (jaesil) and a gate. The ritual house has a U-shaped (ㄷ-shaped) plan, five bays wide and three bays deep. The gate building is a single-bay, straight-line (一-shaped) structure containing a stable, a storeroom and a mill. The yeongssangchang, a paired lattice window, in the rear wall of the ritual house's main hall shows that the building was constructed in the 17th century.
