이원 청향당실기 목판

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThese are woodblocks on which the writings of Cheonghyangdang Yi Won (1501–1569) were carved. He was a disciple of both Yi Hwang and Jo Sik, and a leading figure among the Confucian literati of the Yeongnam school. The blocks measure 20.5 cm by 16.5 cm and number 68 in all. The book opens with a preface written by Yu Chi-myeong, who held the post of Vice Minister of War. Volume 1 contains poems by Yi Hwang, together with a record of his sayings and conduct, an epitaph, a memorial inscription, and an account of Baesan Seowon, a Confucian academy. Volume 2 contains twelve poems by Yi Hwang and ten by Jo Sik, among other pieces. Judging from the publication record, the blocks were printed at Baesan Seodang in Danseong, Sancheong, and are thought to have been brought later by Yi Won's descendants to Gusajae, the hall where he had lectured. This material is valued as a source for identifying the figures with whom Yi Won associated and for understanding his thought.
