KOGL Type 1Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.kr

These books and documents have been passed down in the head house of Kim Bu-ryun, Seorwoldang, and comprise two titles in nine volumes — the Seorwoldang Yugo (Collected Writings of Seorwoldang) and the Gyeamillok (Diary of Gyeam) — together with 177 sheets of historical documents, including royal certificates of appointment (gyoji), royal directives (yuji), property-division deeds (bunjaegi), household registers (hogu danja) and memorial texts (jemun). Kim Bu-ryun (1531–1598) was a disciple of Yi Hwang; having passed the state examination, he served as a local magistrate, and when the Japanese invasions of 1592 broke out he raised a righteous army and fought the invaders. His son Kim Ryeong (1577–1641) fought against the Japanese forces under Yu Seong-ryong during the same war. Belonging to the Gwangsan Kim clan, the family formed marriage ties with several other lineages in the Andong region, building a social and economic base that established them as one of Andong's leading scholar-official families. The Gyeamillok, the diary kept by Kim Ryeong, runs to eight volumes and, though with occasional gaps in dates, records the period from the first day of the seventh month of the 36th year of King Seonjo (1603), when he was 27, to the twelfth day of the third month of the 19th year of King Injo (1641), when he was 65. This hand-copied diary appears to be a later transcription made from Kim Ryeong's original draft. The Gyeamillok, together with the many other historical documents relating to the father and son Kim Bu-ryun and Kim Ryeong, is an important source for examining the daily life and socio-economic standing of scholar-official families in the Yeongnam region during the reigns of King Seonjo and King Injo, as well as aspects of rural community life.
