This is a sindobi, a memorial stele erected along the spirit path leading to a tomb to record the life of the deceased, commemorating Master Ubok, a civil official at the Joseon court who lived from 1563, the eighteenth year of King Myeongjong, to 1633, the eleventh year of King Injo. The stele originally stood at the entrance to a road, but the surrounding area has since been reclaimed as farmland, and it now stands in the middle of a paddy field. Jeong Gyeong-se's great-grandson Jeong Seok-gyo had a Nampo stone, donated by the Gyeongsang Provincial Governor Yi Myeong-jun, carved for the stele, but it remained unerected. His great-great-grandson Jeong Ju-won then composed the reverse inscription, and in 1758 the stele was finally erected by Jeong Jong-no, a sixth-generation descendant. The stele is large in scale, and its engraved text is well preserved overall. Master Ubok was learned in ritual studies and was known as a scholar of ritual studies. As the foremost disciple of Master Yu Seong-ryong (pen name Seoae), his scholarship was widely recognised in both the Yeongnam and Giho regions.
