A budo, or stupa, is a structure enshrining the ashes or relics (sari) of a cremated monk, symbolising the monk's tomb. This stupa, now standing in Gusa-ri village, originally stood on the old site of Gamaksa Temple, but was moved to its present location in 1987 when a building was erected there. The stupa consists of a body stone set on a three-tiered base, with every part of the structure octagonal in form. On the base, the sides of the lowest stone are carved in shallow relief with an 'eye' (ansang) design, and the upper surface bears a thick supporting rim carved with clouds and a dragon to bear the stone above. The middle stone of the base is left plain, while the uppermost stone has a two-tiered support carved on its underside and is ringed on its upper surface with a lotus design. The roof stone of the body is decorated with flower carvings projecting from each of its eight corners. Although the finial at the top has been lost, the stupa is relatively well preserved, and is presumed to date from the Goryeo period.
