Standing Hamyang Daedae-ri Rock-carved Buddha
KOGL Type 1Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.kr

This is a standing image of the Buddha, incised in linear form on a natural rock face located about eight-tenths of the way up the ridge of the hill behind the site. Roof-tile fragments scattered in the surrounding area suggest that a temple or hermitage once stood here. The standing Buddha is about 6 m tall and about 2.5 m wide; on a square base, a lotus pedestal with upward-facing petals and robes covering both shoulders can be faintly made out. Features such as the three creases on the neck, indistinct incised lines, and an awkward composition suggest that it was made in the Goryeo period.
