These are old documents handed down for generations in the head house of the Nampyeong Mun clan: royal appointment certificates, a literary collection, and calligraphy albums of Mogye Mun Wi (1554–1631), a scholar of the mid-Joseon period. When the Imjin War broke out in 1592, Mun Wi raised a righteous army in Geochang and fought the invaders. After his parents died, he settled at Mogye-ri in Geochang County and taught disciples there for more than ten years. He was later recommended by Kim U-ong, Yu Seong-ryong and others, and served as a tutor of young students and as an inspector in the Office of the Inspector-General. When King Seonjo died and King Gwanghaegun came to the throne, Mun Wi relinquished his official post, returned to his hometown, and devoted himself entirely to reading. After his death he was enshrined at Yongwon Seowon in Geochang. These documents provide material for understanding both the circumstances of Joseon at the time and the history of the Nampyeong Mun clan.
