Pyeonghaebukcheongyo Bridge Stele
평해북천교비 · 平海北川橋碑

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis stele was erected in March 1603, the 36th year of the reign of King Seonjo. It is made of sandstone with pebbles scattered through it, and at some later time it broke into three pieces, which have since been rejoined with adhesive. The front of the stele records that a stream ten ri north of Pyeonghae-gun, near Wolsong, connected with the sea and overflowed year-round, making daily life difficult for the local people and hindering the passage of merchants. To relieve this hardship, the residents of the time obtained the permission of the Pyeonghae magistrate Jo In-jing to build a stone bridge, and this stele was erected to commemorate its construction.
