Hoejae Yi Eon-jeok (1491–1554) was a leading Neo-Confucian scholar and Sarim-faction official of the first half of the sixteenth century. In the early years of King Seonjo's reign, during the process of his posthumous honouring, the inscription for his spirit-path stele was composed by Gi Dae-seung, and in 1577, the tenth year of King Seonjo, a spirit-path stele with calligraphy by Yi San-hae was erected within Oksanseowon Confucian Academy. Nine years later, in 1586, a second spirit-path stele, with calligraphy by Son Yeop, was erected in front of his tomb.
