Provincial Tangible HeritageJoseon · 1725

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis stele was erected in 1725 to record on stone the repair of a road. Only the face bearing the inscription has been dressed smooth; the other faces are only roughly shaped. The inscription, written in the haeseo (standard) script, runs to thirteen lines of more than 150 characters, and it praises the monks of Yongcheonsa Temple who, in 1725, paid from their own funds to level a treacherous road. The characters are deeply and beautifully carved, making this stele valuable material for the study of Joseon-period epigraphy.
