Gimseonchiui Byeoru Pavilion
김선치의 벼루

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis inkstone is not exceptional in stone quality or style, but as an inkstone datable to the fourteenth or fifteenth century it carries an inscription of certain date. It has historical value as the piece on which its owner, Kim Seon-chi — a literatus and military official of Goryeo — carved his own signature at the age of twelve. Also, the wooden case made for the inkstone in 1762, when it was discovered, at the order of the magistrate of Hamchang, is recognised as being of that period in both material and style. In particular, more than thirty scholars of the Joseon period praised this inkstone in various forms of writing — records, poems, songs, and verses — so its value as a piece of intellectual and cultural heritage is very high.
