This is a woodblock-printed book on mulberry paper, bound with thread binding, printed in the gimi year of the Zhengtong era, that is, in 1439, the 21st year of King Sejong's reign. It consists of six fascicles in one volume, from volume 25 to volume 30, with a half-frame (text block) measuring 26 cm by 19 cm. Its content is a commentary by the Song-dynasty scholar Hu Anguo on Confucius's Spring and Autumn Annals. Unlike the Zuo Commentary, the Gongyang Commentary, and the Guliang Commentary — together known as the Three Commentaries on the Spring and Autumn Annals and included among the Thirteen Classics — this Song-dynasty work, the Chunchu Hossi-jeon (Hu's Commentary on the Spring and Autumn Annals), is distinctive in relating the contemporary affairs of its own time to the classical text of the Spring and Autumn Annals. According to the postscript by Yu Ui-son, the book was first printed in Jeonju, but as the printing blocks had deteriorated over time, in the autumn of the gimi year (1439) the provincial governor Yi Seon had the prefect of Gyeongju, Yi Hyo-in, and the assistant magistrate Kim Sa-jung find a skilled calligrapher to transcribe the text anew for reprinting. The postscript was written in the eleventh month of that year. Although the Chunchu Hossi-jeon survives in relatively more copies than many other books, and this particular set is incomplete, its very early date makes it a precious resource.
