Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThe Bongseon records, day by day from 16 October to 16 November 1791, the circumstances in which the mother of Ha Jin-tae fell gravely ill and Ha Jin-tae and his family nursed her; this account, titled the Jomoju Byeongnok Ilgi, a diary recording the grandmother's illness, was kept by Ha Jin-tae's son, Ha Ik-beom. Following this act of filial devotion, thirty items of hand-copied drafts, registers, and memorials to the authorities requesting that his filial conduct be commended have survived, and they let us trace the efforts of the local literati community to have his conduct honoured by the relevant offices. These documents were compiled over the period from 1791 to the late nineteenth century. In particular, like the diary of nursing included in the Bongseon, they record in diary form, and in great detail, the actual circumstances of nursing a parent out of filial devotion, making them a valuable source for understanding the daily life of a scholarly family and the practice of nursing the sick at that time.
