Changju Ha Jeung (1563–1624) was an important figure of the Nammyeong school of Confucian thought. This is a collection of old documents handed down through the generations by the descendants of the Changju family as they settled in the area. It includes a rare junhogu (a certified copy of a household register) and a variety of property-division records such as byeolgeup mungi (deeds of special bequest), wills and deeds of gift, as well as no small number of documents relating to grave-site disputes and to wito land set aside to fund ancestral rites connected with Changju, including petitions, official directives and wanmun (government-issued certificates). The collection also contains a large number of personal letters spanning a long period, offering at a glance a view of the many kinds of documents produced in the Joseon period. It is an important resource for tracing the ties between a local scholarly family, settled for generations in the countryside, and the Confucian scholars of the surrounding area, and for understanding at a glance the course of the family's life over time.
