These artefacts are the documents and relics of Yi Eung-pyo (1555–1611) and his descendants. Yi Eung-pyo served under Yi Sun-sin during the Japanese invasions of Korea, distinguished himself in numerous naval battles, and was afterwards registered as a Seonmu Wonjong Merit Subject. The Seonmu Wonjong Gongsin Nokgwon, the register recording this honour, is an edition printed before the Manchu invasion of 1636, and the merit subjects it records are important material for studying the course of the Japanese invasions. In addition, old documents belonging to Yi Eung-pyo and his son, including royal edicts, testamentary writs, and household registers, are important material for understanding the social and economic background of the period.
