The Nectar Ritual Painting (gamnotaeng) of Sudosa Temple is executed in colour on silk measuring roughly 2 metres, depicting the Seven Buddhas, the Bodhisattva who Guides the Way, hungry ghosts, and groups of figures representing scenes of hell and of the human world. According to the production record written in ink at the bottom of the painting, it was made in the 51st year of the Qianlong era (1786), with the painter-monks Pyeongsam, Yuseong, Seongyun and Jemin among those involved. Because each scene is labelled with an inscription in ink identifying it, the painting is a very important work for the study of the iconography of Nectar Ritual Paintings of the Joseon period.
