Gwansuru is the gate pavilion of the seowon (Confucian academy), built in 1740; it makes use of natural bedrock and warped, irregular timbers as lower columns, achieving harmony with its natural surroundings and a form of great beauty. It is a two-storey pavilion measuring three bays across the front and two bays deep. Natural stone foundation stones are set on a U-shaped platform built up among the bedrock, and columns are erected on them. All the columns are round, and at the four outer corners auxiliary support posts of carefully adjusted height are placed. A door for entry is set at the front of the ground floor, while the rest of that level is left entirely open. The upper floor has a floor of umulmaru, a lattice-patterned wooden flooring, surrounded by a gyeja balustrade, a balustrade with curved posts.
