Gyejeogan (1841nyeon)
계적안(1841년)

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis register appears to have been compiled in 1841 and then rewritten in 1877 after some disruptive incident. According to a preface written by Yi U-yun in 1841, when the Samaso — the hall for those who had passed the lower state examinations (samasi) — was rebuilt in 1840, its name was changed to Yeongyejae, and the Cheonggeuman, the register of Confucian students, was likewise renamed the Yeongyean. This was because the register had come to include not only those who passed the samasi but also those who passed the higher civil service examination (mungwa). This particular register, the Gyejeogan, is — as its name suggests — a list of mungwa graduates. Unlike the Yeonbangan, it appears to record, without dividing candidates into an upper register (sangan) and a lower register (hagan), all those who had passed the mungwa up to that time. When it was rewritten in 1877, however, a supplementary section and a lower-register section appear to have been newly added.
