Standing Yangsan Wonhyoam Hermitage Rock-carved Amitabha Buddha Triad
KOGL Type 1Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.kr

Deeply carved in intaglio on the upper part of the Amitabha triad is the phrase "南無阿彌陀佛" (Homage to Amitabha Buddha), each character about 14 cm wide. To the right of the right attendant bodhisattva is a vertical inscription about 4 cm wide reading "世尊應化二千九百三十三年四月 日" (a day in April of the 2,933rd year of the Buddhist era). Below the triad is carved the name "Gang Eung-su", and on the rock face to the viewer's left of the boulder bearing the triad, the names of the donors are incised in order: "Yi U-yeong", "An Gyu-haeng", "U Chang-ok" and "Jeong Gi-nam". The rock-carved standing Amitabha Buddha triad is carved into the rock on the eastern side of the main hall of Wonhyoam Hermitage. As is typical of rock-carved Buddhist images exposed to the elements, it is heavily covered in moss overall, particularly on the Amitabha Buddha's left foot and lotus pedestal and on the skirt of the right attendant bodhisattva. The Buddha's curled hair and right hand, and the face of the right attendant bodhisattva, are slightly worn, and there is a horizontal crack across the waist of the triad, but the overall condition is good.
