우계당 염일 진영 · 梁山通度寺所藏歷代高僧影幀
Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis portrait shows Seon master Ugyedang Yeom-il seated cross-legged on the floor, in an almost frontal, left three-quarter (eight-tenths) view. Set against a two-tier background of a plain green upper wall and a mat below, he sits at the centre of the picture beside a low desk holding a sutra, gripping a monk's staff in his left hand and a string of prayer beads in his right. To the right of the picture is the inscribed title, reading 'True Portrait of the Great Monk Ugyedang Yeom-il, Head of Religious Affairs of the Seon and Gyo Orders', and to the left, outside the main image, is an accompanying eulogy. An inscription at the bottom records that the portrait was made in the fourth month of the eulmi year, the fifteenth year of the Daoguang reign (1835), by the painter-monks Uyeong and Hwahye. The picture measures 83.4 cm wide and 122.0 cm high.
