Yeongpadang Hall Seong Gyu Portrait
영파당 성규 진영 · 梁山通度寺所藏歷代高僧影幀
Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis portrait shows Seong Gyu, the Seon master of Yeongpadang, seated in a left-facing view turned eight-tenths, set against a two-tier composition of an upper wall panel and a lower straw mat. A chair with a backrest is placed as a backdrop, and he sits on a cushion laid over the mat, facing sideways. Draped over the chair is a green beopui, a ceremonial cloth, its edge painted with a lotus-and-scroll pattern, with a bulja, a ceremonial fly-whisk, leaning against it. To the left of the painting is an inscribed title reading "Cheongheo ha je-yuk-se Yeongpadang daeseonsa Seong Gyu ji jin" (淸虛下第六世影波堂大禪師聖奎之眞) — "the true portrait of Yeongpadang, Great Seon Master Seong Gyu, sixth generation after Cheongheo" — together with a eulogy written in 1870. The painting measures 85.4 cm in width and 122.5 cm in height.
