Gyeongpadang Hall Gyeong Sim Portrait
경파당 경심 진영 · 梁山通度寺所藏歷代高僧影幀
Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis portrait shows Seon master Gyeongpadang Hall Gyeong Sim seated cross-legged on the floor in a left near-profile view, turned about eight-tenths from the front. He sits on a cushion placed on a rush mat, facing to the side, holding a Zen staff in one hand and a string of prayer beads in the other, with a low writing table and books shown beside him. The picture is composed in two registers against a green ground: an upper wall filled with a cloud-and-treasure pattern, and a lower area showing the mat. A decorative valance is painted across the top of the picture, adding a further ornamental touch. In its technique, fine gold lines are used for the drapery folds, the lotus motifs on the border of the kasa robe, the decorative parts of the ceremonial whisk, the tassels of the valance and the lettering of the book title, lending the whole a rich, ornate quality. To the right of the picture is an inscription reading 'Portrait of the Great Master Gyeongpadang Hall Gyeong Sim'. The picture measures 65.9 cm in width and 98.7 cm in height.
