Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis portrait shows Yongpadang Hall Do Ju seated cross-legged in full length in a chair, in a left three-quarter profile (jwaan chilbunmyeon), against a two-register background of an unpatterned upper wall and a straw mat below. Seated in the chair, he grasps the handle of a monk's fly-whisk in his left hand, while his right hand, little finger extended, lightly holds the tassels of the fly-whisk. The tiger skin draped over the chair is rendered in a schematic style, and a manja (Buddhist swastika) motif appears on the side of the chair. On the left side of the picture is an ink inscription reading "True Portrait of Great Seon Master Yongpadang Do Ju, Buddha-Sun of Haedong (the Eastern Land)". The picture measures 79.6 cm wide and 122.2 cm tall.
