Poundang Hall Yun Gyeong Portrait
포운당 윤경 진영 · 梁山通度寺所藏歷代高僧影幀
Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis portrait shows Seon Master Yun Gyeong of Podundang as a full-length figure seated cross-legged on a chair, turned to the left in a seven-tenths view. He wears a grey jangsam (a monk's long robe) with a red kasa (a monk's ceremonial surplice) draped over it, resting a monk's staff against the inside of his arm while his left hand grips the armrest of the chair and his right hand turns the pages of a book. The composition is in two tiers: a red background filled with diagonal cloud patterns on the upper wall, and a floor mat below. Behind the figure, the chair, notable for its gilt fittings, has a beopui draped over its backrest, and a Buddhist ceremonial fly-whisk hangs to one side. The chair is distinctive for its short, decorative legs. The slope of the shoulders and the rendering of the two hands are somewhat awkward, though the colours are otherwise vivid, with the ornate chair and the contrasting colours of the robes standing out. On the left of the composition is the title inscription 'Hongjin usе hwaeomjongju Podundang daeseonsa Yungyeongjin' (a true likeness of Yun Gyeong, Great Seon Master of Podundang and Head of the Hwaeom Order, bearing the honorific title Hongjin usе). The picture measures 78.7 cm wide and 128.8 cm high.
