Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis portrait depicts Seon Master Boundang seated cross-legged on the floor, shown in an eight-tenths left profile view. In his left hand he holds a jujangja, a Seon monk's staff, upright, and in his right hand he holds a string of prayer beads. Behind the figure, against a two-tier background of an upper wall and a lower floor mat, is a chair draped with a green ceremonial robe. To the left of the picture is an ink inscription, written by the abbot, reading, in translation, "A true portrait of the Great Seon Master Boundang, of the Seon and Doctrinal Schools," and to the right is clearly recorded an encomium for the portrait. The picture measures 79.5 cm wide by 122.5 cm high.
