진주 은열사 강민첨 초상 · 晋州 殷烈祠 姜民瞻

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krKang Min-cheom (?-1021), known posthumously as Lord Eunyeol, was a renowned general of the Goryeo dynasty. He passed the civil service examination during the reign of King Mokjong, and in the third year of King Hyeonjong (1012), serving as an inspector-general, he repelled the Eastern Jurchen. In 1018, when the Khitan invaded with an army of 100,000, he served as deputy commander under General Gang Gam-chan and inflicted a crushing defeat on them. For this achievement he rose to the post of Jijungchusa Byeongbu-sangseo, Minister of War. This portrait of Kang Min-cheom, held at Eunyeolsa Shrine in Jinju, depicts him in a dallyeong (a round-collared official robe) holding a hol (a ceremonial tablet), in the court dress worn by officials of the Goryeo period. It closely resembles the Portrait of Lord Eunyeol designated Treasure No. 588, and is an outstanding work notable for its excellent painting technique.
