Ugak-ri is a place where the line of Yi Ui-taek, pen name Oeuijeong, a fifth-generation descendant of Yi Eon-jeok, settled and has lived since the seventeenth century. The house's floor plan consists of a straight, ㅡ-shaped main women's quarters (anchae) and an L-shaped, ㄱ-shaped men's quarters (sarangchae) joined to a middle-gate wing, with a storage wing (now lost) once standing opposite to form an open, ㅁ-shaped layout. Each building within the house is clearly separated by function, and traditional nineteenth-century techniques are well preserved in its lattice windows, floor plan and construction methods. Overall, it illustrates well the components of a yangban house of the southern region in that period.
