Guardian Deities Painting of Yeonhosa Temple, Hapcheon
KOGL Type 1Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.kr

The Guardian Deities Painting of Yeonhosa Temple, Hapcheon is a single hanging scroll depicting Indra (Jeseokcheon) and his attendant deities, painted on a silk ground pieced together from a 20.9 cm-wide strip and a 42.4 cm-wide strip of silk, the weave of which has loosened considerably in many places. Yeonhosa Temple originally held, together with this painting of Indra and the assembly of guardian deities, a second guardian-deities painting forming a pair with it, depicting the Bodhisattva Dongjin; today only this single painting survives. The scroll now survives as the painted field alone, the original silk backing (bonji) around the edges of the frame having been cut away, and although its colours have faded somewhat with the long passage of time since it was made, its overall state of preservation is generally good.
