Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krGyechosimhaginmun (誡初心學入文) and the Lotus Sutra, Volume 1 (妙法蓮華經 卷第一), among ten books in total, are classical texts more than 370 years old and rare materials for the study of Buddhist history. In 2004, when a Buddhist statue temporarily enshrined in the Ansimnyo (安心寮) hall of Seongjusa Temple was moved together with the construction of Jijangjeon Hall and given new gilding and colouring, votive objects found inside the statue of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva showed that the images of Ksitigarbha and the Ten Kings of the underworld, together with their entire retinue, had been newly made in 1681. The objects list the names of the painter-monks who made the images and the donors who sponsored them, and reveal that Seongjusa Temple was known at the time as Ungsinsa (熊神寺), meaning "Bear Temple."
