Lotus Sutra vol. 1
묘법연화경 권제1
Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThe Gyechosimhagimmun (Admonitions to Beginning Students) and the Lotus Sutra, volume 1, are among ten books in total, all of them rare classical texts more than 370 years old and valuable material for the history of Korean Buddhism. In 2004, when a Buddha statue temporarily enshrined at Seongjusa Temple's Ansimnyo quarters was moved together with the construction of Jijangjeon Hall and given renewed gilding and repainting, the votive objects placed inside the statue of the bodhisattva Ksitigarbha were examined. They showed that the Ksitigarbha image, together with the Ten Kings of the underworld and their entire attendant retinue, was newly made in 1681, and they list the names of the monk-painters who made the statues and of the donors who sponsored them. They also reveal that Seongjusa Temple was known at the time by the name Ungsinsa Temple ('Bear Spirit Temple', or Gomjeol).
