The Gyecho Simhak Ipmun (Admonitions for Beginning Students), the Lotus Sutra volume 1, and eight other titles make up a set of ten books, all more than 370 years old and rare materials for the history of Buddhism. In 2004, a Buddha statue that had been temporarily enshrined in the Ansimnyo hall of Seongjusa Temple was relocated as part of the construction of Jijangjeon Hall, and its gilding and colouring were renewed. During this work, the votive objects placed inside the statue of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva were examined. They showed that the images of Ksitigarbha, the Ten Kings of the Underworld, and their entire retinue had all been newly made in 1681, and they list the names of the painter-monks who made the images and the donors who sponsored the work. They also reveal that Seongjusa Temple was known at that time as Ungsinsa Temple, or 'Gomjeol' ('Bear Temple') in Korean.
