묘법연화경 권1,2 · 妙法蓮華經 卷 一,二
Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is one of seven sutra volumes printed after the Japanese invasions of 1592-1598 (the Imjin War). The set comprises the Sipjigyeongnon (Treatise on the Sutra of the Ten Stages), part two, from the fifth stage (Nanseungji), volume 7, through to the tenth stage (Beopunji), volume 12; the Ganjimnok; a commentary on the Avatamsaka (Flower Garland) Sutra, volume 34; the Gyeongdeok Jeondeungnok (Record of the Transmission of the Lamp), volumes 22 to 24; the Sutra of Perfect Enlightenment, volume 6; and the Lotus Sutra, volumes 1 and 2. The style in which the engravers recorded their names, the shape of the fishtail motifs (eomi) at the centre fold of the pages, and other such features make it possible to identify the form and edition of woodblock prints produced at provincial temples. The set is recognised as an important resource for understanding trends in the publication of Buddhist scriptures in various regions during the late Joseon period.
