This is a jecheong, a shrine hall for ancestral memorial rites, dedicated to Jichon Kim Banggeol (1623-1695), a civil official of the late Joseon period. It was built in 1712, the 38th year of King Sukjong. Kim Banggeol passed the civil service examination in 1660, the first year of King Hyeonjong, and entered government service. In 1689, the 15th year of King Sukjong, he was appointed sagan, a censorial official in the Office of the Censor-General (Saganwon), but when Queen Inhyeon of the Min clan was deposed he felt responsible for failing to prevent the king's error beforehand, and retired to the countryside. He later held further posts, including royal secretary and chief censor. His writings survive as the Jichon Munjip (Collected Works of Jichon). The complex consists of three buildings. The jecheong itself is five bays wide and two bays deep, with a hip-and-gable roof that takes the shape of the character '八' (eight) when seen from the side. The main house and the lower house, two buildings totalling eight bays, have plain gable roofs shaped like the character '人' (person) when seen from the side, and together form a floor plan in the shape of the character '二' (two). Because the nearby Jisan Seodang village academy was too small, this jecheong was also used as a lecture hall for students, and it is unusually large for a building of its type.
