Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krLee Jeong-ho, born in 1940 in Sunchang, learned deulsori (field-work songs) from Park Hong-gyu, Yang Hak-gu and Seol Dong-geun. He has won prizes at numerous competitions, including the Jeonbuk Arts Competition, the National Folk Arts Festival, the National Folk Song Competition and the National Sijo and Gasa Singing Competition. Geumgwadeul Song has been sung for some 500 years around the mojeong (village field pavilions) in the Dongjeon and Daejang fields of Geumgwa, and is a representative farming song of the area, carrying the simple wish for a bountiful harvest as villagers helped one another through arduous farm labour by means of pumasi (mutual labour exchange). As the leading singer of Geumgwadeul Song, Lee Jeong-ho skilfully performs the songs suited to each stage of farm work — irrigating the paddies, transplanting rice seedlings and weeding — including Mulpumgi-sori, Sangsa-sori, Munyeol-ga, Yeonkkot-taryeong, Banga-taryeong, Saho-sori and Jangwonjil-sori.
