The historic site associated with Jeong Cheol, whose pen name was Songgang, is where he stayed while at Seongsan, and it comprises Songgangjeong Pavilion and Sigyeongjeong Pavilion. Jeong Cheol (1536–1593) was a scholar and statesman of the mid-Joseon period; he passed the state examination at the age of 27, in the 16th year of King Myeongjong's reign (1561). He went on to hold many official posts, but eventually resigned amid political strife and returned to his hometown of Seongsan, where he wrote literary works such as Seongsanbyeolgok and Samiingok. Songgangjeong Pavilion measures two bays across the front and three bays along the side, and is roofed with a hip-and-gable roof that forms the shape of the character "eight" (八) when seen from the side. A signboard reading "Songgangjeong" hangs at the front, and one reading "Jungnokjeong" hangs on the side. Sigyeongjeong Pavilion measures two bays across the front and two bays along the side, and like Songgangjeong, has a hip-and-gable roof. It is unusual in that the room is pushed into one corner, with the front and side made into wooden-floored verandas.
