Gwangnyeong Dolmen No. 5
광령지석묘 5호 · 광령지석묘 5호

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krDolmens are the representative tombs of the Bronze Age, also known as goindol, and are known to have mainly been the tombs of a ruling class with economic wealth or political power. Korean dolmens are divided into the table type, in which four supporting stones are set up to form a stone chamber topped with a huge, flat capstone; the go-board type, in which a stone chamber is built underground with small supporting stones set up before the capstone is placed on top; and the capstone type, which is like the go-board type but has no supporting stones at all. This dolmen, set into a stone wall between a path and a field in Gwangnyeong-ri, Aewol-eup, Bukjeju County, is of the capstone type. Because the ground rises to a higher slope on the south side, there are no supporting stones there, while three slab-shaped supporting stones stand on the east side and one on the west. The capstone resting on top is somewhat raised at the centre of its upper surface, but overall it forms a rectangle.
