Gwangnyeong Dolmen No. 6
광령지석묘 6호 · 광령지석묘 6호

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krDolmens are the representative tombs of the Bronze Age, also called goindol, and are known chiefly as the burial places of a ruling class with economic wealth or political power. Korean dolmens are divided into two types: the table type, in which four supporting stones are set upright to form a stone chamber with a huge flat capstone placed on top, and the go-board type, in which a stone chamber is built in the ground with small supporting stones set beneath a capstone. This dolmen, set at the edge of a flat field in Gwangnyeong-ri, Aewol-eup, in what was then Bukjeju-gun, is of the go-board type. Small rough stones were set upright as supporting stones at the south, north and west corners, with the capstone placed on top; the dolmen is somewhat small, measuring 2.3 m in length and 2.19 m in width. On the southeastern corner of the capstone survive cup-marks (seonghyeol), holes made to pray for a good harvest or for the birth of children.
